There are a plethora of products on the market to control and counteract oily skin, but many are expensive and sometimes ineffective. An excellent way of controlling oily skin without hurting your pocket is to make your own homemade face mask with natural ingredients. These face masks for oily skin will exfoliate and cleanse the skin, absorb excess oil and remove blackheads, and clear any acne and blemishes that the skin might be suffering from, while moisturizing and softening the skin at the same time. As these masks are made from natural ingredients, they can be used at least once or twice a week without drying out the skin.

1. Cucumber, Egg White, Clay and Lemon Mask

This mask is fantastic for cleaning clogged pores and removing blackheads.

Ingredients

  • 1 tsp cucumber
  • 1 egg white
  • A few drops of lemon
  • ½ tsp clay

Mix all ingredients together until they become a smooth paste and apply to your face with clean fingers. Smooth the paste all over your face while avoiding the eye area and leave it on for 10-20 minutes. Remove the mask with lukewarm water and leave your skin to breathe for a few minutes before applying your regular moisturizer.

Use this mask once or twice a week on very oily skin and be sure to rinse thoroughly to remove all the lemon juice.

Expert tip! Use this mask in the evenings, as the lemon juice makes skin more sensitive to sunlight.

2.  Apricot, Yoghurt and Clay Mask

This mask is excellent for regulating oiliness, nourishing the skin and controlling acne breakouts.

Ingredients

  • 1 apricot
  • 1 tsp yoghurt
  • ½ tsp clay

Mash the apricot in a food mixer or with a fork until mushy. Add the yoghurt and the clay and mix together until a smooth paste is formed. Apply this paste to your face, avoiding the eye area and leave on for about 20 minutes. The paste should harden and dry – once this has happened, remove the mask gently with some lukewarm water. This mask will leave your skin glowing beautifully.

This mask can be used two to three times as week as it has very soothing ingredients.

3. Banana and Peppermint Oil Mask

This banana-based mask is very good for smoothing and nourishing the skin, as well as targeting breakouts, pimples and blemishes.

Ingredients

  • 1 banana
  • 1 tsp yoghurt
  • 5 drops essential peppermint oil
  • ½ tsp clay

Mix all the ingredients together; making sure the banana is mashed into a smooth paste with the peppermint oil, clay and yoghurt. Ensure the peppermint oil is mixed thoroughly into the mixture as it can sometimes separate itself from the other ingredients. Apply the paste to the skin, avoiding the eye area and leave on for 20-25 minutes until the clay has dried. Once the clay is dry, gently remove the mask with some lukewarm water. The medicinal properties of the peppermint oil is excellent for soothing acne and combating breakouts, while the clay dries out the skin and controls the oiliness.

This mask should be used on excessively oily skin once or twice a week.

4. Green Tea, Honey, Clay and Aloe Vera Mask

This is one of the best overall masks for nourishing and softening the skin, improving elasticity, absorbing excess oil and helping to prevent breakouts and acne.

Ingredients

  • 2 tsp green tea
  • 1 tsp honey
  • 1 Tbsp. Aloe Vera gel
  • 2 tsp clay

Note: When buying the ingredients for this mask, make sure the Aloe Vera gel is pure Aloe Vera without any preservatives as these could have an effect on your skin. Pure Aloe Vera gel is fantastic for soothing sensitive skin and helping to remove blemishes.

Mix all the ingredients together until they form a smooth paste and apply to your face. Avoid the eye area and leave the mask on for 20 minutes or until the clay has dried. Once the mask is dry and beginning to show signs of cracking, gently apply lukewarm water to your face to remove the mask and leave to rest for 10 minutes. Your face will feel smooth, supple and soft and there will be no need to apply moisturizer afterwards unless desired.

This mask can be used on oily skin once or twice a week.
